Spring Forecast 2026 - our thoughts before the event

Next week’s Spring Forecast isn’t designed to be a headline-grabbing Budget.

It’s an economic and fiscal update, with major tax and spending decisions expected later in the autumn. That said, it still matters. The OBR will publish fresh projections on growth, inflation, borrowing and the public finances on the same day giving developers a refreshed sense of the economic backdrop for the rest of 2026. It’s an important temperature check for the year ahead, providing the direction of travel.

The industry won’t be looking for dramatic change or policy shifts. It will be reading between the lines - watching for signals on rates, cost pressure and confidence that help projects move from appraisal to action.
